Our grandchildren love the time we spend together marshmallow cooking on MyFire campfire. We share many fun family evenings around MyFire at our favourite holiday spot in Nagambie. We also like to sit in our backyard and enjoy a snack or two! It is more fun when the family can join us. In this time of learning to live with Covid-19, the efficient heat of our compact MyFire campfire allows us to keep a safe physical distance between us, and still share happy times!
Creating Happy Memories And Responsibility
We get a great little fire going in no time in our compact MyFire camp fire. This cooking does not require a big flame, so it is good safe family activity where the teenagers take seriously their responsibility for cooking marshmallows to perfection. Of course it is done under adult supervision, as we take every opportunity to gently teach them how to be responsible around a camp fire.
Our Simple Marshmallow Cooking Tool
Our girls helped us create a neat little device for rotating marshmallows.
The video shows 2 designs of rotating sticks in action: straight wire and crank handle styles. They both work well.
Here is how we made the straight tool:
- Unravel a wire coat hanger and straighten it;
- Then cut off the curly end bits
- And cut in half to make two shorter & safer toasting sticks.
How to use the marshmallow cooking tool:
- You rest the sticks in the ‘V’ slots on the top side of myfire.
- Approaching the fire from either side low down where it’s not too hot, rotate the wires between your fingers so cooking is even.
- When it stops rotating, you know the marshmallow is cooked.
- As you can hear in the video, the girls like to brown it a little longer. If you do too, keep rotating to avoid burning it.
Try our marshmallows toasting and tell us what you think of our technique.
More Fun: Toasting Bread & More
Cooking, roasting, toasting snacks is definitely great fun in the back yard or when camping. If marshmallows are not your thing, have you tried making toast? Here is another neat tool for safe-toasting. We developed that one while camping and we keep it with our campfire toolkit, as well as the marshmallow cooking tool.
Tell us how you enjoy MyFire; we will share them here and on our Facebook page.
