We are proud of having designed MyFire campfire to meet all the needs of campers. Well, slow-cooking is yet another eco-friendly way to enjoy MyFire!
We can thank client Rick for asking if MyFire would be suitable for slow cooking with a traditional camp oven.
The answer is YES! It was easy to do and the result was delicious. You can watch the video of our recipe and cooking steps down below.
Setting-up A Small Fire For Slow Cooking
First, here is how to set up a small fire to cook up a ‘JUS’ filled Camp Oven.
Because these camp ovens need to be used as a slow cooker, we have to reduce the amount of flames striking the base of the pot. We achieved this easily and created a long lasting small fire. We simply used two flat-shaped logs laying horizontally, instead of placing the wood vertically which give a strong heat and high flames.
When you use a small amount of flat wood horizontally, the burning mostly occurs below the wood. That is because of the fresh air coming up through the grate. The upper parts of the logs do not burn much, hence the reduced heat directly under the base of the pot, delivering a slow low heat burn.
The two pieces of wood lasted for about an hour, so this is an eco-friendly way to use a camp oven.
Remember, act responsibly, never leave your campfire unattended, so plan when you are going to do your slow cooking.
Then, once you have finished your slow cooking, just go back to the usual way of creating a hot fire: Stand the wood up more vertically and bingo, you have your cozy fire shooting heat towards you.
